Mother, 4-Year-Old Daughter Critically Injured In Long Beach Apartment Fire

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A mother and her 4-year-old daughter were in critical condition Thursday after getting trapped in an apartment fire in Long Beach.

The fire was reported just after midnight in a third floor unit in the 1000 block of Stanley Avenue near E. 10th Street, officials said.

"As firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, they conducted a primary search and found two patients inside the involved unit," Jake Heflin from the Long Beach Fire Dept. said.

A 47-year-old woman and her child were found laying unconscious on a bed.

Firefighters performed life-saving measures and transported them to a local hospital, where the girl was transferred to a child burn unit.

Two dogs were also found deceased inside the apartment.

It took about 50 firefighters just over 10 minutes to put out the flames.

Although officials said there was a smoke detector inside the residence, a neighbor claimed the complex did not have working ones.

The cause was under investigation.
