Trio Suspected In More Than A Dozen Burglaries Throughout Orange County

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with a string of residential burglaries in Newport Beach, police said Thursday.

The men were found inside a home in the 200 block of Evening Canyon Road by the homeowner at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.

Hugo Fernando Gonzalez and Anthony Vargas, both 21 from Los Angeles, fled the scene in a white Kia sedan driven by Evelyn Yvette Gudino, 26, also of Los Angeles, Manzella said. The car was seen by a Laguna Beach police officer about 10 minutes later.

According to Manzella, Gudino ran a red light, refused to pull over and eventually collided with a Toyota Prius near the intersection of Laguna Canyon and El Toro roads. The Prius driver was not hurt.

Two of the suspects stayed in the car, but the third tried to flee the scene of the crash and was found nearby, Manzella said.

Property belonging to other burglary victims was found inside the Kia, Manzella said, and detectives believe the suspects may be responsible for at least 15 residential burglaries throughout Orange County.

Gonzalez, Vargas and Gudino were being held without bail and are scheduled to appear in court Friday morning, according to Orange County jail records.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim, or who may have additional information about the suspects, can contact detectives Bob Bennett or Jon Jarema at (949) 644-3790.
