3 Boys Arrested In Social Media Threats Against High School In Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELSINORE (CBSLA.com) — Three boys were in custody Thursday on suspicion of making threats against a Lake Elsinore high school via a social networking site, prompting authorities to lock down the campus.

The juveniles, whose names were withheld because of their ages, were arrested Wednesday night after an investigation into unspecified threats of violence directed at Lakeside High School, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department officials.

The teenagers were booked into Southwest Juvenile Hall, sheriff's Sgt. Steve Brosche said.

Lake Elsinore Unified School District officials notified the Sheriff's Department on Monday afternoon about threatening comments posted on an undisclosed social media page, Brosche said.

District spokesman Mark Dennis said the campus was placed on lockdown just after 1 p.m., with teachers and students remaining in their classrooms and all outdoor activity suspended, as deputies searched the grounds.

The lockdown was lifted by 3 p.m.

Campus administrators worked with deputies to identify the suspects.

Authorities said parents and students should remember that all threats are considered serious and anonymous threats can still be traced to cell phones and computers.
