Celebrity stylist George Papanikolas says ecaille, which means tortoiseshell, trades in the ombre's sharp contrast from dark to light for a softer effect. The best result comes form adding caramel, amber and golden highlights to a client's natural color.

Those looking to glam it up can try platinum blonde with dark eyebrows. Kim Kardashian and Rita Ora have made headlines recently for stepping out in the bold look. Papanikolas says with this trend you should proceed with caution, as this degree of bleaching can be harsh on the hair.

Redheads will want to go for softer, pastel tones. Think Jessica Chastain and Amy Adams. Papanikolas says coloring your hair red is easy just as long as you don't want to color it lighter than your natural hair color, or are starting with natural hair color. Otherwise, you will need to strip some of the darker pigment first.
