RIVERSIDE COUNTY (CBSLA.com) — Authorities sought the public's help Thursday to locate a 76-year-old man who was reported missing in Murrieta.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, deputies were sent around 2:42 a.m. to the 40000 block of Winchester Road for report of a missing person at a restaurant near Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Robert Cricks waited in a running vehicle while his wife entered the restaurant, and then drove away on Winchester Road towards Temecula.

Officials added he suffers from severe dementia, and did not have a cell phone or money in his possession at the time of his disappearance.

Cricks' wife explained to officers she believes her husband is unfamiliar with the area, and will not be able to find his way home, or other familiar areas, on his own.

She went on to explain that the key fob for the vehicle is in her possession, and Cricks would not have the ability to restart the car if he turned it off.

A Silver Alert was issued through the California Highway Patrol in an effort to locate Cricks.

Detectives described him as a white man with gray hair and blue eyes, that stands 5-foot-11 tall, and weighs 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black ball cap with military pins, a blue jacket, a long sleeve blue shirt and blue jeans.

The vehicle was described as a silver 2007 Infinity G35 sedan, with a California disabled license plate that reads: 2304Ydp.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Riverside County Sheriff's Department at (951) 696-3119.
