Grand Opening Held For Housing Development For Low-Income Families In Boyle Heights
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — East Los Angeles community members gathered Thursday for the grand opening of a housing development for low-income families in Boyle Heights.
The announcement was made at 10 a.m. at 2917 East 1st Street.
The 53-unit Sol y Luna Apartments is energy efficient and will offer residents classes in English, parenting, nutrition and health, personal finances and home-buying.
After-school tutoring will also be available.
The development of Sol y Luna Apartments was the outcome of 300 local residents' work on "El Plan del Pueblo" (The People's Plan), a document that serves as the core of ELACC's land-use principles to favorably impact the neighborhood. Residents volunteered the location because it was once a bar and nightclub that attracted undesirable activity near an elementary school.
