Ventura High School Student Arrested After Gun Taken To Campus

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 17-year-old Ventura High School student has been arrested on suspicion of taking a gun onto campus.

Police say Ventura High School administrators were tipped off shortly after 11:20 a.m. Tuesday that a student had taken a gun onto campus. Administrators reported the tip to Ventura Police Department's on-duty school resource officers and were able to confirm the identity of the male student, police officials said.

The student, who was on campus, was interviewed, and a small-caliber handgun was recovered, police said.

The student was taken into custody without further incident and later booked on suspicion of possessing a firearm on school grounds.

No other students were in the vicinity at the time of the arrest, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the Ventura Police Department at (805) 339-4309.
