Terminal 4 Connector Project Reaches Major Construction Milestone At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Officials marked a major construction milestone Tuesday within the Terminal 4 Connector project at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

At 10:00 a.m., officials gathered to celebrate during a "topping out" ceremony; where construction crews hoisted the final structural steel beam on top of the building's frame.

The $115 million project was designed to connect the Tom Bradley International Terminal with Terminal 4, through a multilevel facility aimed to help passengers make connecting flights from different terminals.

"Today marks a much-anticipated milestone in the modernization of LAX," said Los Angeles World Airports Deputy Executive Director for Airports Development Roger Johnson. "This is another great step in the ongoing efforts to make LAX a truly world-class gateway to Los Angeles.

Other additions to the project include a checked baggage inspection system, a baggage transfer facility, and a five-lane passenger security screening checkpoint.

According to airport officials, passengers planning to travel between Terminal 5 through Terminal 8 will be able to access a passenger bus port.

A public plaza will also be built for outdoor seating on the upper level of the terminal, authorities added.

Authorities plan to have the Terminal 4 Connector completed in 2016.
