SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A boy — just shy of his second birthday — was struck and killed by a car in Santa Ana Saturday evening after the toddler wandered from his home into the street.
Police said the motorist, driving a white Toyota Camry, stayed at the scene and was cooperative with authorities.
Santa Ana Police Sgt. Lorenzo Carrillo said, “The driver said he did not see the toddler prior to the location.”
The police sergeant said the child wandered about a block away from his home in the 800 block of South New Hope Street about 10 p.m.
Paramedics rushed the child to an area hospital, where he later died, he said.
Carrillo said the investigation is ongoing.
