Woman Found Dead After Motor Home Catches Fire In Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a woman was found dead and another person was injured after a motor home caught fire in Huntington Beach.

As KCAL9's Stacey Butler reports, dramatic cellphone video captured images of flames Wednesday erupting from the 1988 Ford motor home in the area of Talbert Avenue and Beach Boulevard near a Walmart store about 2:45 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the vehicle fully engulfed.

"Most of the witnesses are saying they saw the vehicle with smoke coming out of it as it exited the Walmart parking lot. Then, within a short amount of time, it was fully engulfed in flames," Sgt. Jennifer Marlatt of the Huntington Beach Police Department said.

According to Butler, the officers were pushed back by the heat of the flames and were unable to rescue the female.

Police said a 51-year-old man, believed to be the driver, was found outside of the motor home but informed officers a woman was still inside.

Witnesses told Butler the man was behaving erratically and, according to police, had to be subdued.

Police said he was transported to UCI Medical Center where he was admitted in serious condition.

The cause of the fire and the woman's death have not been determined, police said.

Neither the driver nor the deceased female passenger have been identified.
