$50K Reward Announced In Hit-And-Run Death Of Father

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A $50,000 reward was announced Wednesday for information leading to the arrest of a suspect wanted for a fatal hit-and-run.

Councilmember Bernard C. Parks announced the reward at a 10 a.m. city council meeting.

Michael Darrell Adkins, 31, was struck while riding his motorcycle Feb. 10 around 6 a.m. on Western Avenue near 78th Place, police said.

The driver of a white Dodge Ram pickup truck collided with Adkins before fleeing the scene.

Adkins was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

"For anyone to just do something like this and not have any heart is a thing that's imaginable," Adkins' godfather Miachel Holliness said. "Everyone has felt some loss, and they should have a heart and speak up at this time."

The victim's family has also created a GoFundMe page to help with memorial costs.

"Every day he looked forward to embracing his beautiful wife and his phenomenal children," his sister wrote on the fundraiser page. "My brother was an amazing man of many talents and with your support we would like to provide him with a beautiful home-going, thank you!"

Adkins leaves behind a fiance and three young children.
