Firefighters Injured, Homes 'Heavily Damaged' In Laguna Hills Fire

LAGUNA HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Two firefighters were injured Monday while battling a three-alarm residential blaze in Laguna Hills

The fire that spread to two homes was reported about 11:30 a.m. in the 22600 block of Napoli Lane, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said. About 70 firefighters were on the scene, battling the blaze, which was brought under control by 12:30 p.m.

One firefighter sustained second-degree burns to a hand, and another suffered heat exhaustion, Concialdi said.

"The fire was so hot he was burned through his gloves," the captain said, adding that one of the homes was "heavily damaged."

The Red Cross was called to help place eight adults and seven children were displaced by the fire, Concialdi said.

One of the homes was the site of a licensed daycare center, where five children ages 1 to 5 were being cared for, Concialdi said. The daycare's children were safely evacuated.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
