Brea Man Arrested For Allegedly Stealing 5 Diamond Rings From OC Jewelery Store

BREA (CBSLA.com) — A 62-year-old man was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing five diamond rings from a jewelry store located inside a mall.

According to the Brea Police Department, officers were sent around 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 27, for report of a robbery that had just occurred at the Kevin Jewelers inside the Brea Mall.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Rick Dean Warren, of Brea, asked an employee to show him diamond solitaire rings.

When a ring was removed from the case, Warren lifted his shirt, removed a handgun from his waist band, and demanded the employee hand over the ring in addition to four others from the display case, officers explained.

Warren then fled the store with all five rings.

Detectives said they believe Warren may be responsible for similar jewelry store robberies in the Southern California area over the last year.

Around 9:00 a.m., a high-risk car stop was conducted on a vehicle driving int he area of Brea Boulevard and Fir Street. Warren was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

According to police, the investigation is ongoing as officers are conducting search warrants in relation to Warren's arrest.
