Couple Handcuffed During Encino Home Invasion Robbery

ENCINO (CBSLA.com) — A couple was handcuffed during a home invasion robbery in an upscale San Fernando Valley neighborhood, police said Tuesday.

At least four suspects wearing ski masks broke into a home around 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue in Encino, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

"They were surprised. They were in bed when this home invasion robbery occurred. They were upstairs," Sgt. Dave Gueto said. "The suspects entered from a lower library entrance. They pried open one of the doors.

The suspect were armed with a hang gun and a screw driver.

The men restrained the couple and searched the home, stealing an unknown amount of cash, jewelry and other items.

Authorities believe they fled the scene in a Mercedes or BMW.

"A lot of these homes have great security systems and we were able to view the video and it seems to be a newer model four-door sedan," Sgt. Cueto said. "We have some great video of them leaving."

The home is owned by former NBA player Earl Watson, but was being rented by a local restaurant owner and his wife, according to the LAPD.

No injuries were reported. A suspect description was not released.
