Temp Who Stole Toner Cartridges From Hilton Worldwide Gets 6 Months For Submitting False Tax Return

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A temp who took thousands of dollars worth of toner cartridges from the Hilton Worldwide business office in Beverly Hills and resold them was sentenced Monday to six months in federal prison for making a false statement on his 2009 tax return.

The Los Angeles federal case stems from the period when Eduardo C. Partida was a temporary worker assigned to the Hilton Worldwide mail room.

Beginning in November 2005, he misappropriated toner cartridges from the Hilton and sold them for personal profit, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

Partida, 42, of South Gate, was paid by checks for the stolen toner cartridges and deposited the checks into one of three bank accounts held in his name, IRS officials said.

As a result of the toner cartridge sales, Partida admitted that he received unreported income for the years 2005 to 2009, resulting in a $50,000 tax loss to the IRS, the agency said.

Partida pleaded guilty in November to submitting a false tax return.
