Bail Set At $1 Million For Santa Monica Barricade Suspect

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — A man who authorities suspect in a slaying earlier this month, and who barricaded himself in a Santa Monica apartment for several hours Saturday afternoon, is being held on $1 million bond.

On Sunday, the suspect was identified as David Carrillo, 28. According to jail records, he is expected to appear for a hearing at the Inglewood Municipal Courthouse on Tuesday.

Carrillo was taken into custody just before 5 p.m. Saturday after a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department SWAT team used team gas to dislodge him from an apartment in the 800 block of Ocean Park Boulevard, near Lincoln Boulevard. The team was called in just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday to help with the suspect's arrest, the Sheriff's Department said.

When he emerged, a shirtless Carrillo was led downstairs by a Sheriff's Department K-9 that was pulling at the suspect's foot and pants.

Carrillo is suspected in a Feb. 10 stabbing in the 8900 block of Vermont Avenue, in an unincorporated area of the county near South Los Angeles, according to sheriff's Deputy Grace Medrano. The man who was stabbed, Wesley Morejon, 30, later died at a hospital, according to the county coroner's office.
