23-Year-Old Man Found Guilty Of Murdering, Burying Pregnant Girlfriend In 2013

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said a 23-year-old man was found guilty Friday of killing his pregnant girlfriend in 2013.

Devion Keith Anderson of Compton was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder (the 18-year-old girlfriend and her 14-week-old fetus). The jury deliberated about an hour.

Anderson is scheduled to be sentenced March 26 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court. He faces a maximum sentence of 30 years to life in state prison.

Deputy District Attorney Adrian Roxas said deputies received a 911 call from a family member at Anderson's home two days before Christmas in 2013.

Authorities were told the defendant may have killed and buried his 18-year-old girlfriend, Maria Gonzalez, the prosecutor said.

When deputies arrived, they discovered freshly dug dirt in the backyard. After excavating the area, authorities found the girlfriend's body, the prosecutor added.

A few hours later, Anderson surrendered at the Compton sheriff's station.

An autopsy revealed the victim died by strangulation.
