Body Discovered Along Laguna Beach Coast Identified As Missing Swimmer

LAGUNA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A body discovered about a half mile south of Thousand Steps Beach was positively identified Thursday as a missing teen from Las Vegas.

Anthony Parnell, 18, was last seen in the water off Thousand Steps Beach on Feb. 8 when he was swept away in treacherous water conditions.

Just before 4 p.m. Wednesday, Orange County Sheriff's Department Harbor Patrol deputies recovered his body near the rocks of Shell Beach in the area of Monarch/Three Arch Bay.

Shortly before his disappearance, Parnell had signed up to join the U.S. Army.

An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday to determine an official manner and cause of death.
