Thousands To Participate In Komen L.A. County Race for the Cure

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Thousands are expected to participate in the Susan G. Komen Los Angeles County Race for the Cure next month.

CBS2/KCAL9 is a proud media sponsor of the race slated to take place March 7 at Dodger Stadium.

The race, now in its 19th year, celebrates breast cancer survivors, honors those who lost their battle, and raises funds to help save lives in L.A. County.

Organizers say 100 percent of the net proceeds will be allocated to the foundation's mission.

Of that, 75 percent of the funds raised will stay local and help to fund programs that offer breast health education, as well as breast cancer screening and treatment.

The remaining 25 percent of the proceeds will go toward research.

The kick-off for this year's race was held Feb. 15 at the CBS Studio Center in Studio City.

Jenna Erin Murray shared her story with CBS2/KCAL9. Murray was diagnosed 1 ½ ago with Stage 2 breast cancer. The 29-year-old has started a blog.

But Murray wasn't alone.

WWE Diva Lilian Garcia, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor, also shared her story.
