Poshmark App Lets You Cash In On Old Clothes, Nab Luxury Goods At A Steal

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  Ever see a girl rocking an amazing outfit and secretly wish you could raid her closet? Now, there's an app for that.

Poshmark is an online consignment store where ladies can sell gently worn, vintage or new clothing they never got around to wearing.

"This is actually a vest that I bought on the app. Wore it a couple of times and then will re-post it," fashionista Alicia Alonso said.

The 30-year-old executive assistant has been using the app for the past two years. She's sold more than 200 lightly worn items for a total of $8,000.

"In fashion, it's really hard to say you're gonna get the money back that you spent on the item, but I am a savvy shopper," Alonso said. "I've made a nice chunk of change. That's just a side business for me."

Users start by entering in their size and scrolling through the selections.

Women post luxury brands such as Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors and Coach.

Poshmark is unique in that women also can use the app to connect with other users.

"If I see a dress I like, I can say '@stephanie, tell me about the dress.' And through that process you just get more personal; you get to know the women. I think that's a huge part of the success of Poshmark. You get to meet really empowering women who all have similar interests, obviously fashion."

In a city like L.A., where people hope to stand out through their style, the app gives women the opportunity to look chic while buying and selling on a budget.
