Woman, 37, Accused Of Attacking 64-Year-Old Stranger Without Provocation

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com)   —  Police in Costa Mesa have arrested a 37-year-old woman they said assaulted a 64-year-old stranger without provocation.

Authorities said Stacy Overton of Costa Mesa accosted the unidentified female victim in a parking lot at 2200 Harbor Boulevard just before 8 a.m. Tuesday.

When police arrived, the victim told them a stranger threw her to the ground and began punching and kicking her face.

The 64-year-old woman had face swelling but declined medical attention, officials said.

The victim was able to describe the suspect, and police encountered Overton nearby. Questioned about a laceration on her face, she reportedly told authorities that the 64-year-old victim attacked her without provocation.

Overton was placed under citizen's arrest and later released.

During a follow-up investigation, police contacted Overton on Thursday and arrested her around 3:30 p.m. on a felony battery charge including assault with a deadly weapon/non-firearm. They also arrested her on a parole violation.

Overton was booked at the OC Jail and is being held without bail.

Detectives said they will submit the case against Overton  to the OC District Attorney's Office to make a formal complaint.

No further details were released.
