Limited Edition Cronut Necklace Contest Takes Place Over App

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Hopefuls can take part in a contest to win Cronut necklaces through a smartphone app.

Virgin Mega, which helps businesses place customers into a virtual queue, partnered with chef Dominique Ansel and jewelry designer Gabriel Urist to develop a special necklace. The necklace consists of a glass vial filled with brass Cronut flakes, cast from actual pastries.

One hundred of the necklaces, along with a set of Cronuts with cherry blossom ganache, sour cherry jam and citrus sugar, are available through the app for $100.

Fifty of the necklaces will be hand delivered in New York City, and the other 50 will be distributed overnight to others across the country.

Those hoping to give the necklace to their Valentine may help their chances of winning by interacting on the Virgin Mega app to help them "skip" ahead in the queue, in a virtual sense.

The 'Cronut Is Forever' set officially goes on sale at 12 p.m. PT on Wednesday. The app can be downloaded in the iOS version on the Apple App store here, or for the Android here.
