Crash Restricts Road Between West Malibu And 101 Freeway

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — The only open road between western Malibu and the 101 Freeway was reduced to one lane on Sunday after a pickup truck hit a power pole, causing electric lines to droop, officials said.

The crash on Kanan-Dume Road was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 7:23 a.m. Sunday, just north of the tunnels the carry vehicles across the Santa Monica Mountains between Malibu and Agoura Hills.

While Southern California Edison workers replace the pole and rehang the wires, one of the two lanes south of Sierra Creek Road will be closed, with traffic alternating on the other side of the road. The CHP estimates the lane will be blocked until 9 p.m.

The incident took place about 5 miles south of the 101 Freeway and 8 miles north of Pacific Coast Highway, according to officials.

Because of the long-term closure of PCH due to storm damage at Point Mugu, Kanan-Dume Road provides the only highway link between the freeway and western Malibu.
