Thief Ransacks Several Mailboxes In Rural Perris Neighborhood

PERRIS (CBSLA.com) — A thief broke into several mailboxes in one rural Perris neighborhood, and residents are especially worried because it's tax season.

More than two dozen mailboxes in the area of Lilly Meadows Drive and Rocky Glenn Road had their locks pried open sometime overnight, ripped open and raided, leaving neighbors feeling violated.

"We have been told to check it every day because they get broken into. The mailman told us that," resident Lorie Kay said.

What was taken is unclear, but given that it's tax season right now, people are uneasy with W-2 forms and other critical financial documents circulating through the mail.

Beverly Nutt checked her mailbox Tuesday, but she said she worries about her neighbors.

"The person that called me about it was expecting a package and didn't get it, of course," she said.

The area is very dark at night, which makes the boxes easy targets, according to residents, so it's not the first time mail has been stolen.
