2 Peafowl Found Fatally Shot With Pellet Gun In Palos Verdes Peninsula

PALOS VERDES PENINSULA (CBSLA.com) — Animal activists asked for the public's help Wednesday in capturing a man they say has been killing peacocks in neighborhoods throughout the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Two peafowl were found dead Monday near the intersection of Eastvale Road and Bolan Lane on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and multiple pellets were found in both birds. The peafowl were killed near an area where a suspect fired an unknown type pellet gun, hitting and killing a peacock in July 2014, according to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles.

Since July 2012, SPCALA officials say 53 peafowl have been found dead or injured in Rolling Hills Estates, where the birds are known to roam freely and can sometimes be a nuisance to residents.

The suspect in the 2014 shooting remains at large. He is described as a white man, 50 to 60 years old, wearing a white-colored shirt and Aviator-style sunglasses, driving a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan.

Malicious action against any wild or domesticated animal can include felony animal cruelty charges, which can carry jail sentences of up to three years, $20,000 in fines and more.

Anyone with information about the deaths of the peafowl on Palos Verdes Peninsula can call the director of SPCALA animal protection services, Lt. Cesar Perea, at (323) 730-5300, ext. 272.
