Only On 2: Animals To Compete In Long Beach Aquarium's Otter Bowl

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — If you're still looking for plans for the Super Bowl on Sunday, look no further than the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Aquarium officials told CBS2's Peter Daut on Friday that some adorable players will competw with one another Sunday in the very first Otter Bowl.

Trainer Jimmy Chapman explained the aquarium's six otters enjoy tackling one another to get control of the ball.

"If we have one object with some food in it, they're going to compete for it to see who wins," Chapman said.

Officials said they came up with the Otter Bowl to attract more visitors on a day that is usually quiet at the aquarium.

"It's very enriching," Chapman said. "It's something completely different for them. In turn, it's going to be something completely different for our guests."

Fans are encouraged to cheer for their favorite animals during the 30-minute competition, which will be held at 3 p.m.

Daut reported the winner will receive plenty of crab legs, mussels and clams.
