Santa Ana Man In Custody In Fatal Hit-And-Run Accident

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A 45-year-old man was in custody Thursday on suspicion of fatally striking a woman while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, officers were sent around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday to the 1100 block of West MacArthur Boulevard for report of a traffic collision, which involved an SUV that struck a pedestrian and fled.

Paramedics pronounced an adult female victim dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Dallas Frank Reichstein III, 45, of Santa Ana drove his 2002 Nissan Xterra westbound on MacArthur Boulevard, police said, and struck the female pedestrian who attempted to cross the street mid-block outside of any crosswalks.

Reichstein fled and made no attempt to stop or check on the victim, officers explained.

Moments after the crash, he was stopped by officers in a residential area and displayed symptoms consistent with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Reichstein was subsequently arrested and booked at the Santa Ana Jail on felony hit-and-run charges and second-degree murder from a prior DUI conviction.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact the Santa Ana Police Department at (714) 245-8214.
