Suspect Arrested For Stabbing Man, Making Threats Towards Others In Ventura Fight

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — A 33-year-old man was in custody Saturday for allegedly stabbing a man, and making threats towards others.

According to the Ventura Police Department, officers were sent around 1:55 a.m. to the area of Santa Clara Street and California Street, for report of a large group fighting in the intersection.

Shortly before arriving to the scene, officers explained they received a second call advising a suspect was armed with a knife, and a stabbing occurred in the fight.

A description was provided of the suspect — later identified as Jason Patterson, of Reseda — who was seen running southbound on California Street.

Police reported a patrol officer in the area observed a man running into a parking structure on California Street and Harbor Boulevard who matched the suspect description.

Patterson was found in possession of a knife, and was detained inside the parking structure.

A preliminary investigation revealed the incident began on Chestnut Street, near the exit of Santa Clara parking structure, between Patterson and an unknown man involved in a physical altercation.

He is accused of stabbing a victim, described as a white man between the ages of 20 and 25-years-old, once in the stomach area.

A 27-year-old man separated Patterson and the victim, which prompted Patterson to brandish his knife and make threats towards the second man.

Officers said Patterson then fled on foot towards California Street, and into the Harbor Boulevard parking structure, where he was peacefully detained.

The stabbing victim reportedly left the area on foot in an unknown direction. Officers said they searched the area and local hospitals, but were unable to locate him.

Patterson was booked at the Ventura County Jail for making terrorist threats and brandishing a deadly weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, or knows of the whereabouts of the stabbing victim, is urged to contact the Ventura Police Department at (805) 339-4309.
