Family Confirms Death Of Missing L.A. Executive

PALM DESERT (CBSLA.com) — The family of a missing Los Angeles-area executive announced his death Thursday on a Facebook page hours after authorities confirmed the recovery of a body in Palm Desert.

Omar Meza, 33, of Los Angeles was seen a week ago at Desert Springs, a J.W. Marriott Resort & Spa, on Country Club Drive.

On Thursday, authorities said a body had been located in the same area where searchers were looking for Meza but would not confirm that the body was that of the missing AIG sales executive.

His family, though, released a statement on the Facebook page "Find Omar Meza," which said in part:

"We are with heavy hearts tonight as we announce the passing of Omar Meza. He was a very loved son, husband, brother & friend."

The statement continued: "We would like to thank all of the supporters this past week. It brings tears to our eyes to see how well loved Omar was, he will be missed by many."

Friends said Meza was in Palm Desert for sales meetings.

His wife told KCAL9 that he went to dinner last Thursday night and used Uber to get to the hotel. She said security tape from the hotel showed that he spent about an hour inside. He was seen exiting the building after midnight.

She had said her husband's jacket and wallet were both found on one of the hotel golf courses.

Prior to word of the discovery of a body, Meza's family initially planned to hold a news conference Friday. They have since said they no longer plan to.
