LAPD: Arrest Made In Fatal Stabbing Of Doughnut Store Clerk

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a doughnut store clerk in South Los Angeles.

The man was taken into custody at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the Media Relations Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

He is accused of fatally stabbing 29-year-old Andy Ung during a robbery at the store Tuesday night.

Also on Thursday, friends and loved ones of Ung gathered outside of the shop at Florence Avenue and Broadway Street for a vigil.

The vigil and growing memorial outside the shop was also where a cross-section of the community gathered for a march and called for an end to violence.

The march was organized by the LAPD and community leaders in part in response to the fatal stabbing of Ung.

Marchers met at 5 p.m. in front of the LAPD 77th Division headquarters and then traveled to the front of the store.

"He was always good to the community. He loved all of us. He tried his best to do everything good," Jenny Ung, the victim's sister, told KCAL9's Juan Fernandez.

The Ung family has owned the doughnut shop for 12 years and many of those who came out Thursday night were loyal customers.

"He was always kind. If you're short, they tell you, 'Don't worry about it.' They was always good to us," Kenny Roberts, a customer, said.

The Ung family says, despite what happened, they will reopen.

"It was just one of those nights. It could happen to anybody. It could have been me," Chris Ung, the victim's brother, said.

Meanwhile, Ung's family told Fernandez that they hadn't heard of the arrest as of yet but would welcome the news, if true.
