LAFD Divided Into 4 Bureaus In Effort To Improve Response Times

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Fire Department will operate out of four bureaus in and around the city as part of an effort to increase accountability and improve response times.

The division is being billed one of the most significant changes in the LAFD's 128-year history, according to KNX 1070's Claudia Peschiutta.

At each of the four bureaus, a deputy chief will be in charge.

"I'm calling them the local fire chiefs. We have a Valley fire chief, a South fire chief, a West and a Central fire chief," Ralph Terrazas, the fire chief of the LAFD, said.

City News Service reports that the Central Bureau will be based at Fire Station 3 on N. Fremont Avenue; the South Bureau at S. Beacon Street in San Pedro; the Valley Bureau at Fire Station 88 on N. Sepulveda Boulevard; and the West Bureau at Fire Station 82 Annex at 1800 N. Bronson Ave.

"We have a big, diverse city in terms of the risks and their challenges we face," Terrazas said.

The cost to set this up was an estimated $2.5 million, according to Peschiutta.

"The other benefit of this is that we're in close alignment with LAPD so when we have those large scale incidents, we can work more closely with them," he added.
