LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police Thursday released surveillance video of a Koreatown hit-and-run that hospitalized a 48-year-old woman and her grandson.

The accident happened around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday on Beverly Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The video shows Emma Cermeno checking for vehicles several times before she and her 5-year-old grandson, Alvin, crossed the street. They were then hit by an older-model gray Lincoln Navigator, Det. Felix Padilla said.

“They were holding hands, the little kid was like four steps in front of the lady,” witness Pedro Murillo said. “The car hit both, but the little kid just flew.”

The driver failed to stop and fled the scene.

“The driver never pulled over, never braked, just continued traveling eastbound. The grandmother was knocked to pavement. The grandson was knocked about 40 feet away, he suffered some internal injuries . . . a fractured jaw, ” Det. Padilla said.

Cermeno was hospitalized in stable condition while her grandson was last listed in serious.

Detectives say the driver is facing felony hit and run charges.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or the suspect should contact the LAPD.
