Police: Brazen Robbery Involving Men In Monkey, Gorilla Masks Is Caught On Video

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are looking for two men suspected in a brazen daytime robbery in which numerous pairs of Nike Jordan shoes were taken.

The Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement that the men were captured on surveillance video entering the store in the 7800 block of Melrose Avenue in the Fairfax District just before 1 p.m. Thursday.

The footage shows the men, believed to be ages 18 to 25, wearing monkey and gorilla masks.

Police said the men described as either black or Hispanic threatened the store clerk with two semiautomatic handguns, according to the statement.

The men allegedly made off with an unknown number of women's shoes.

Both men were 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 and weigh 150 to 160 pounds.

The first man was wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans and light-blue gloves, while the second wore a red shirt, blue jeans and light-blue gloves, according to the footage.

"After the robbery, the suspects left the scene in a car described as a later-model gray Nissan Altima with four doors and paper plates," the statement said.
