Stun Bag Reported Missing From Sheriff's Patrol Car In LA

LOST HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Deputies were still searching Sunday for a stun bag that was reported missing from the trunk of a sheriff's patrol car last night.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, two deputies placed a stun bag, with yellow markings in a black canvas carrying case, in the trunk of their patrol vehicle before leaving the station around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

The deputies were called to handle report of an area child abuse reported at a hospital in Hollywood.

After traveling on the 101 Freeway in Calabasas, deputies explained they exited at Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, where they were flagged down by a pedestrian who told them their trunk was slightly open.

Once parked on Sunset, deputies realized the trunk of the patrol car was ajar about two to three inches. The stun bag was missing, but other equipment was accounted for.

Authorities initially reported that a bean bag shotgun, loaded with four bean bag shells, and carrying case were stolen.

They corrected their statement on Sunday, to report the missing equipment does not contain a shotgun, and they do not believe it was stolen as deputies traveling in the patrol car never left the equipment unattended.

Deputies explained they placed the stun bag on top of other equipment. Due to the trunk opening, they believe the bag may have fallen out without realizing it.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact deputies at (818) 878-1808.
