Strong Winds Bring Down Power Lines, Trees In Malibu

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — Gusty winds knocked down power lines in parts of Malibu overnight, cutting power to a number of traffic signals and blocking several roads, authorities said Wednesday.

Signals went dark along Pacific Coast Highway at intersections with Heathecliff Road, Zumirez Drive and Kanan Road, according to sheriff's officials. Deputies were deployed to direct traffic.

Power went out about 6:50 a.m. and was reportedly restored at about 11 a.m. Southern California Edison's automated trouble report showed 2,126 customer accounts had lost power in the Point Dume and Paradise Cove areas. Another 82 accounts blacked out north of the Civic Center area, eight miles to the east.

Utility and power lines were also downed in the 4200 block of Ocean View Drive and in a cul-de-sac in the 6300 block of Sycamore Meadows Drive, partly blocking the roadways.

The wind also felled a tree on Fernhill Drive, blocking part of the roadway.

The Malibu Civic Center was not affected.
