Police Officer Hospitalized After Struggle With Transient In Venice

VENICE (CBSLA.com) — A LAPD officer recovering from knee surgery was hospitalized Tuesday following a struggle with a transient, according to a police spokesperson.

The female officer, whose name has not been released, was on patrol in Venice when officers witnessed a male transient committing a crime at Vernon Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard, police said.

The officers tried to detain the transient when an altercation ensued between the suspect and the injured officer, who was recovering from knee surgery.

A taser was deployed on the suspect during the struggle and he was taken into custody. Police said he did not require medical attention.

The crime the suspect was initially accused of committing was not immediately clear.

The injured officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her knee.
