Man Rescued From 9-Foot Trench In Attempt To Fix Sewer Line

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — A man has been rescued from a 9-foot trench in Ontario, where he was trapped for several hours after trying to fix a broken sewer line.

Juan Villalobos, 37, was helping his cousin fix the line in the 1500 block of Armseley Square when the dirt collapsed around him around 4:30 p.m. Monday, trapping him up to his waist.

He was lifted to safety by emergency personnel after several hours.

The victim's wife, Adriana Villalobos, said it was her husband's big heart and willingness to help his family that got him in trouble.

"He's always there to help, that's what happened. He never says no to anyone. He just says, 'OK, I'll be there; I'll help.' "

Family members say Villalobos is not a professional contractor.

City officials warn professionals should be called to fix sewer lines.
