LAPD Asks Public For Donations For Southland Family Whose Home Was Devastated By A Fire
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Police Department officers Wednesday were asking the public for donations to help a local family whose home was devastated by a fire.
Patrol officers witnessed a man attempting to extinguish flames in a triplex in the 4700 block of Centinela Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Monday, officials said.
They entered the residence and directed the family to evacuate. A propane cylinder on the patio then exploded, which intensified the heat and spread the flames quickly throughout the residence.
Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters arrived on scene and were able to knock down the fire before it spread to the other two connected units.
The family of five lost all their possessions, including their pet birds.
"It's bad enough to be in a situation where you lose everything, but to do it three days before Christmas is an absolute tragedy," Sgt. Scott Moffitt said.
Those wishing to donate household goods can drop them off at the Pacific Area Police Station in the 12000 block of Culver Boulevard.
