LA County DA, Target Take Crime Victims Shopping For The Holidays

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey handed out gift cards to crime victims at a downtown Target Monday to help brighten their holidays.

"The holidays can be a difficult time for victims of crime," Lacey said. "This annual tradition allows us to bring hope and joy to these deserving families."

Target donated gift cards for more than 30 children and adults, including Sara Arminta, whose fiancée was a murder victim, and her three children, KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports.

"Its hard because, no matter what they get, it's him they want," Arminta said.

Participating families were nominated by members of the District Attorney's staff.

During the Heroes & Helpers event at City Target, staffers helped children pick out items from their wish lists.

The shopping event is part of a larger holiday giving drive, which benefits more than 200 families affected by violent crimes. Each year, the D.A.'s office raises about $25,000 for the effort.
