Only On 2: Corona Residents Hope Surveillance Video Will Lead To Arrest Of Mail Thieves

CORONA (CBSLA.com) —  Residents of a Corona neighborhood are hoping surveillance video will lead to the arrest of some mail thieves.

CBS2's Tom Wait spoke to the neighbors shaken by a recent rash of thefts.

Shadowy figures used the cover of night to steal the mail right out of the neighborhood mailboxes.

"I hate thieves," says John, who asked Wait not to use his last name.

It was his home security camera that caught two men in action early Thursday morning, in the area of Rimpau and Foothill.

John traced the thieves to where they dumped the mail and took several photos.

Police are involved and are trying to figure out exactly what was taken.

"A lot of it was Christmas cards torn open. I imagine the gift cards were taken out, money if any. There were utility bills," says John.

Neighbors are wondering how much was taken.

One resident told Wait he's waiting for critical components for machines he uses in his daily work.

"I'm going to have to keep a close on eye on my parts and my parts tracking," said Josh Myrick.

And while the video is grainy, there is hope that someone might recognize the suspects and tip off police.
