Burglar Steals Men's Watches Worth Over $11K From Red-Tagged Camarillo Springs Home

CAMARILLO SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — Detectives continued their investigation Monday into a burglarized home red-tagged over the weekend.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, a burglar let himself into the home in the 6300 block of Gitana Avenue and stole a box of men's watches worth more than $11,000.

The victim's home was one of 13 residences red-tagged after a storm that caused a mudslide in the area.

CBS2's Laurie Perez spoke with the homeowner's friend, Stephen Wickman, who worked to salvage anything from the home.

"He's got two motorcycles buried out there," said Wickman. "He's got a refridgerator, and then he's got a brand new washer and dryer, which I think we're gonna be able to save."

Luckily, the homeowner escaped with his daughter after mud and rock slides took over the neighborhood and chased residents out in the middle of the night.

Deputies explained the homeowner reported the theft Sunday after he discovered the loss while cleaning.

The crime is believed to have occurred between 2:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.

Extra patrol cars have been assigned to monitor the area in response to the crime, while residents of the red-tagged homes try to save what they have left in the aftermath of the storm.
