Woman Fatally Shot On Steps Of South L.A. Home

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A woman in her 30s was fatally shot early Wednesday outside a South Los Angeles home, police said.

Police received a 911 call around 4 a.m. of a report of a possible robbery and assault in the 6100 block of Wilton Place in the Chesterfield Square area.

"That was followed by another 911 call, or several, that reported shots fired ... in the same area," said Det. Saul LaBarbera.

An unidentified man told KCAL9's Amy Johnson he was awakened to the sound of gunfire and found a woman dying on his porch.

"When I looked out the window, and as I looked down, that's when I saw the body. I opened the door and I saw her face full of blood. That's when I ran to the bedroom and I got the phone and called 911," he explained.

Two doors down, security cameras captured a car pulling up.

The footage shows a figure walking up to the porch. About 30 seconds later, the person is seen walking back to the car, which quickly backed out.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several shell casings were found on the porch, Johnson reported.

"It doesn't look like anyone here in the neighborhood knows the young lady," Det. LaBarbera said.

Meanwhile, authorities late Wednesday said they have been unable to locate the victim's next of kin. Her identity has not been released.

Anyone with information about the crime was asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
