Witnesses Sought In Fatal Santa Ana Crash
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Traffic investigators sought the public's help Tuesday in providing information regarding a fatal traffic accident that occurred over the weekend.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department, a 19-year-old man was driving alone around 3:15 a.m. Sunday in a 2007 Nissan Murano on Flower Street.
An unidentified suspect was driving a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser east on Dryer Road at the same time.
Officers explained the two vehicles collided within the intersection.
The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to veer toward the Northeast corner of the intersection, where a traffic signal and chain link fence were struck, a news release stated.
Police explained the Chrysler overturned and landed in a storm-drainage channel and caught fire.
Once on scene, firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire, and pronounced the driver of the Chrysler dead at the scene.
The victim has not yet been positively identified, according to the Orange County Coroner's Office.
Authorities said the driver of the Nissan was transported to a hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
He is believed to have been driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the collision, officers added.
Detectives have not yet determined which of the two drivers ran the red light at the intersection.
