Water Main Break Forces Family To Evacuate Villa Park Home

VILLA PARK (CBSLA.com) — A water main break forced one family to evacuate their home Sunday night in Orange County.

The break sent water flooding into the street in the 10000 block of Wildwood Way in Villa Park.

A pipe burst in the reservoir behind the homes.

The rupture caused so much water to flow that it breached the retaining wall behind one home and completely flooded the inside.

The water moved in so quickly that it was nearly three feet deep by the time a neighbor's friend, Gretchen Kaufman, made it inside to help the trapped family get out.

"And they said, 'The baby! The baby!' So we went and found the baby, put the baby in the van, and helped them get everything out of their house," Kaufman said.

The water was so high you couldn't see the swimming pool.

Officials from the Serrano Water District say a surge caused the pipe to burst.
