Police Shoot Suspect In Hollywood Motor Vehicle Burglary

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Police called to the scene of a motor vehicle burglary returned fire when a suspect allegedly fired at them Sunday morning near Wilton Place and Melrose Avenue, authorities said.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department's media relations division, officers were called at 10 a.m. for a burglary from a motor vehicle in the 5000 block of Lemon Grove Avenue.

When they arrived, the suspect produced a handgun and shot at them, police said. Officers shot back and struck the suspect, who was transported to a hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The suspect's condition is unknown.

No officers were injured, the LAPD said. An advisory was sent out, asking the public to avoid the area due to police activity and a large police presence.
