East Coast Storm Expected To Cause Thanksgiving Travel Issues Out Of LAX

EL SEGUNDO (CBSLA.com) — With the busiest travel day of the year approaching, LAX is expected to be the busiest airport in the country as the East Coast's anticipated storm has resulted in travelers deciding to fly early.

Many travelers are hoping to have landed at East coast destinations by the time the storm hits. The large demand in passengers changing flights has resulted in a number of airlines, including Delta and United, waiving flight-change fees.

"We have family that's already landed in Boston Sunday, and they said 'Hurry up and get here!' " Thousand Oaks resident Tatum Waits said.

Airlines are also offering refunds for flights through Friday.

Travelers are making last-minute calls to travel back east on overnight flights.

"I'm happy I'm getting out; I think a lot of the flights are going to be delayed or canceled," UCLA student Isabelle Boch said. "It's going to be hectic."

Los Angeles International Airport is expected to see about 2 million passengers throughout the holiday week, with Wednesday anticipated as one of the heaviest days.

As 6 to 12 inches of snow is expected to be dumped throughout the East Coast through Thursday, it could result in a ripple effect to flights in Los Angeles.

"If that plane is coming from the East Coast, coming to LA, and then going to Dallas, your flight still could be cancelled, so you have to make sure and check your status before leaving for the airport, and sign up for flight alerts on your phone," travel expert Johnny Jet said.
