Man Recalls Terrifying Crash Over Malibu Cliffside

LA MIRADA (CBSLA.com) — One passenger in a horrific crash at the bottom of a Malibu cliff is sharing his harrowing story.

Joseph Tyner, 20, can barely sit up to talk but says he's grateful he and his friends survived.

On Sunday, Tyner and two others were driving home from Malibu to La Mirada when their car plummeted 200 feet below Kanan Dume Road.

"I grabbed onto the little hand bar and prayed. I don't know how many times we flipped. ... I just blacked out from there," he recalled.

Video obtained by CBS2/KCAL9 shows search and rescue crews saving Tyner and the other young men.

Tyner was sitting in the front passenger seat and doesn't know how the crash happened but says once the car came to a stop, they prayed and checked on each other.

The driver was seriously hurt, and Tyner stayed with him while his friend climbed up the steep hill to try to get help.

"The driver was losing consciousness. He wanted to fall asleep, and I had to stay with him, like, 'Stay awake, they're coming, they're coming,' " he remembered.

Tyner says it's a miracle they walked away with some broken bones, scratches and bruises.

"God helped us. We are all here for another reason," he said.

Tyner says they all were wearing their seatbelts and believes it helped in saving their lives.
