SYLMAR (CBSLA.com)    —  Authorities said they were involved with a possibly suicidal man in Sylmar who refused to leave his home.

The 60-something man was barricaded inside a home in the 14300 block of Raven Street  from about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Authorities do not believe the man was holding hostages.

SWAT team negotiators and police were unsuccessful in talking the man out.

The man is believed to be armed, said Sgt. Francisco Wheeling of the LAPD’s Mission Station.

Authorities were first alerted to the man’s situation by a family friend who said he was concerned about the man’s emotional state.
