Tommy Chong Fires Up Plan To Market Wipes To Remove Pot Smell From Clothing

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Entertainer Tommy Chong may have found his pot of gold.

Or he might be finding there is gold in pot.

Recently kicked off "Dancing With the Stars," the popular funnyman known for his advocacy of marijuana use and pot-laced humor says he is ready to market a product designed to get rid of the smell of marijuana odors in clothing with a "swipe-away" cloth.

"While our culture is rapidly accepting cannabis consumption as a way of life, it's fair to acknowledge that smelling like cannabis in many public settings may not be cool," the comedian says.

"I could have used my Tommy Chong's Smoke Swipe 10 years ago to save me from a lot of headache," he says. "Now, those who partake in it can keep it to themselves."

The reusable product, which is rubbed across clothing to neutralize odors, will be sold for $10.99 per 3-pack online and in head shops and dispensaries nationwide in the coming months.

Chong, of course, is known as one-half of the cannabis-fueled comedy duo Cheech & Chong, a partnership that produced six gold records and eight films, which he co-wrote and directed.

Chong also went on to appear in several other films and television shows, including "That 70s Show," where he played a pot-loving hippie named Leo.

After a nine-month prison sentence in 2004 for shipping bongs to Pennsylvania, the comic became a fierce advocate for cannabis freedom.

In 2012, Chong announced he was battling prostate cancer and decided to combat his illness with a controversial cannabis oil protocol. He says he is now cancer-free.
