Man, 23, Accused Of Having Sex With Girl, 15, He Met Using Social Media App

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 23-year-old Canyon Country man was charged Wednesday with several sex charges involving an underage teen.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced that Michael Anthony Byrne faces two counts of oral copulation of a person under 16 and one count each of meeting a minor for lewd purposes, sexual penetration by foreign object and unlawful sexual intercourse.

Byrne pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return to court next month.

Deputy District Attorney Emily Cole said Byrne met the victim through an app that allows anonymous social media interactions. The DA says the suspect initially pretended to be a girl who then wanted to introduce a "friend" to the victim.

The crimes allegedly happened on or between Aug. 1 and Aug. 16.

Byrne faces a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison if convicted.

Bail was set at $175,000.
